A resource to explore

The Worry Tree

Download a free Worry Tree guide to distinguish practical problems from hypothetical worries and consider a useful next step.

About this resource

The Worry Tree is a decision guide for looking at a worry and asking whether there is a practical problem you can act on. It also offers a prompt to redirect your attention when the worry is a hypothetical “what if”. It is a tool to practise, rather than a promise that worry will stop.

How to use this resource

  1. Write down one worry as clearly as you can.
  2. Follow the questions to consider whether there is something useful you can do.
  3. If there is an action, make a manageable plan. If there is no action now, gently return to the present activity.

An everyday example

“I haven’t booked the appointment” may have a practical next step. “What if every appointment goes badly?” asks for certainty you may not be able to obtain.

For reflection and learning. These resources complement individual support and are not a diagnosis or a replacement for therapy.
