My Balanced Mind

A resource to explore

The Rumination Loop

Explore the difference between useful reflection and repetitive thinking with the free Rumination Loop guide.

About this resource

The Rumination Loop guide helps you notice when thinking is circling the same ground without bringing new understanding or a useful action. It invites you to consider whether there is a next step, and where you would like to place your attention.

How to use this resource

  1. Notice the question or memory your mind keeps returning to.
  2. Ask whether this thinking is leading to new information or a practical step.
  3. Choose one useful action, or gently reconnect with what you are doing now.

An everyday example

Replaying a conversation can sometimes help you decide to clarify something. Repeating “Why am I like this?” for the tenth time may be a cue to notice the loop and change your focus.
